What is tutoring?

At the Academic Success Center, tutoring sessions are led by a peer tutor in small groups of about 2 to 5 students that meet once a week for 90 minutes. During the tutoring sessions, the peer tutor will help guide the small group to better understand the lessons of a specific course at Iowa State University. The Academic Success Center does not provide tutoring for graduate level courses and some high level courses.

If you have any questions about tutoring, please contact the Academic Success Center at tutorsrv@iastate.edu.

How can I afford a tutor?

The International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) covers the full cost of all tutoring requests for all international students that currently hold an immigration record at Iowa State University. Funding for group tutoring is available for the fall and spring semesters. Students may submit tutoring requests throughout the entire fall and spring semesters.Students will be directly charged for any tutoring sessions they sign up for but do not attend.

If you have any questions about charges and fees, please contact the Academic Success Center at tutorsrv@iastate.edu.

How do I request a tutor?

Follow these steps:

  1. Go to tutoring.iastate.edu and click "Sign-In to Your Tutoring Profile". You will need to log in with your Net-ID and password.
  2. Fill in the required personal information.
  3. Click "Request Tutoring" in green.
  4. Read through the Tutee Application Agreement.
  5. Choose the course you would like to receive tutoring in. Additional courses may be added on your "Home" tab after each course request is completed.
  6. Select "International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO)" as your funding source.
  7. Edit your schedule. Make sure to take all outside activities (clubs, meetings, intramurals, etc.) into consideration when marking available times. That said, the more times you mark as available, the better your chances of being matched with a tutoring group quickly.
  8. Click Edit next to schedule and select your free times at the schedule shown. (Note: the more free time you indicate, the better chances you have of getting assigned into a group!)
  9. Click "Submit"
  10. You will receive an email from your tutor if you are assigned to a tutoring group. Check your spam filter and junk mail periodically.
