Overview

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that requires all faculty and staff working at schools, universities, and colleges in the United States to protect the confidentiality of student educational records. The Office of the Registrar at Iowa State University has more helpful information on their FERPA: What You Need to Know page.

FERPA & ISSO

The staff and advisors at ISSO can only release information about a student's immigration record and other student information to the primary student. ISSO cannot release any information about a student's immigration record or other student information to family members without a completed and signed Release of Information Form on file with ISSO.

Students can complete and sign the Release of Information Form at the ISSO Front Desk or email the completed and signed copy to isso@iastate.edu.
