Are You Considered a Transfer Student by ISSO?
There are two different ways to be considered a transfer student to Iowa State University.
Being a transfer student can refer to:
- A student transferring academic credits from a previous higher education institution, domestic or international. (Academic Transfer)
- A student transferring a current SEVIS record from a previous U.S. institution to Iowa State University. (SEVIS Transfer)
ISSO considers you a transfer student if you are transferring a SEVIS record to Iowa State University from another U.S. Institution. This can be another college, an intensive English program, or a U.S. High School.
It is possible to be an academic transfer student without being a SEVIS transfer student and it is possible to be a SEVIS transfer student without being an academic transfer student.
Examples:
- If you are transferring academic credits from an international institution to Iowa State, but are entering the U.S. for the first time, you are not considered a transfer student by ISSO.
- If you are transferring a SEVIS Record from a U.S. High School but are not transferring academic credits, you are considered a transfer student by ISSO.
