F-1 Enrollment Requirements for Fall 

Continuing students currently in the U.S.

  • Continuing students currently in the U.S. will be allowed to remain in the U.S. and take only online courses for the Fall 2020 semester, if they so choose. These students must still be enrolled full-time to maintain their status.

Continuing students outside the U.S.

  • Continuing students outside the U.S. will be allowed to take only online courses for the Fall 2020 semester from outside of the U.S. and maintain their F-1 status. These students must still be enrolled full-time to maintain their status.

 

F-1 Reentry to the U.S. 

Continuing students currently outside the U.S.

  • If you have a valid F-1 visa, passport, and I-20 (with travel signature), you should be eligible for entry to the United States unless you are subject to travel restrictions (see Travel Restrictions to the U.S. below).

Initial students currently outside the U.S.

  • Initial students will only be permitted entry to the U.S. if they can show that they are enrolled in at least one class in-person. You must have a valid F-1 visa, passport, and I-20 for entry. Prior to travel, we recommend checking that you are not subject to travel restrictions (see Travel Restrictions to the U.S. below). 

 

Updated I-20s

If you are outside the U.S. now and will be coming to the U.S. for this Fall, please complete the Updated I-20 for Fall e-form in CyStart, to request an updated I-20 before any visa appointment or travel.

 

Travel Restrictions to the U.S. 

Some travel restrictions implemented due to COVID-19 are still in effect. Prior to any travel, please check the Center for Disease Control's (CDC) website for information on which countries have travel restrictions. For F-1 and J-1 students from Schengen countries, United Kingdom, and Ireland, you may qualify for a national interest waiver (NIE) through Department of State allowing entry to the U.S.

 

Self-Quarantine

All ISU students must follow the United States Center for Disease Control guidelines for self-quarantine upon arrival in the U.S.  (See: CDC guidance). See the ISU Self-Quarantine Requirements FAQ for more information. 

 

J-1 Enrollment Requirements

Continuing students currently in the U.S.

  • Continuing students currently in the U.S. will be allowed to remain in the U.S. and take only online courses for the Fall 2020 semester, if they so choose. These students must still be enrolled full-time to maintain their status.

Continuing students outside the U.S.

  • Continuing students outside the U.S. will be allowed to take only online courses for the Fall 2020 semester from outside of the U.S. and maintain their J-1 status. These students must still be enrolled full-time to maintain their status.

J-1 Reentry to the U.S. 

Continuing students currently outside the U.S.

  • If you have a valid J-1 visa, passport, and DS-2019 (with travel signature), you should be eligible for entry to the United States unless you are subject to travel restrictions (see Travel Restrictions to the U.S. below).

Initial students currently outside the U.S.

  • Initial students will only be permitted entry to the U.S. if they can show that ISU has "reinstated partial or full-time classroom course participation or be able to meet other formal in-person requirements before hosting new participants.." You must have a valid J-1 visa, passport, and I-20 for entry. Prior to travel, we recommend checking that you are not subject to travel restrictions (see Travel Restrictions to the U.S. below).
